Guest Wayne S
The best of the classic Range Rovers for towing (if you can get hold of one) is the Classic LSE. Long wheel base, auto box with the hugely torquey 4.2 litre EFI lump in it. We have been passing one round in my family for the past 10 years and its an awesome workhorse - has pulled many a transporter lorry out of the mud! Like Alec says you wont get much to the gallon 15- 18 when towing with the later 4.2 with the early model 3.5L being even more thirsty and without much grunt and torque. If you want the best of perfect towing ability and fuel consumption you cant beat a good Land Rover 110 - you'll pay more for one than a Rangie but they go forever and can carry and tow a serious amount of kit!
