angelfj
Can someone tell me if more than one style/model number Lucas distributor was used in the 3A model. Thanks
Alec Pringle
Hi Frank, The original 83mm TR2 distributor was 201871, replaced from TS8213 by 203108, which was eventually superceded by 206751, DM2s, and subsequently the TR4 and 4A used 208643 - but I don't have any note of just when the latter changes occurred. The earlier TR4 86mm engines used 208095, and from CT17954 the 208972 - and low compression engines only 209092. 4As also utilised 208972/209092. These should be 25D4s. But I don't think that's all the story ! I'll ask Martin Jay if he can complete the picture. Cheers, Alec
vivdownunder
Hi Frank, There were three different Lucas model DM2P4 distributors used on 3A's. The earlier cars with 83mm engines used Lucas part 40480, which was updated to 40698 when the screw on Vacuum Unit was replaced with the push on type. 86mm engines used Lucas part 40735. (different Vacuum Unit to the 83mm engined cars) The Lucas model and part numbers are stamped on a boss on the distributor housing facing towards the inner guard. Regards, Viv. Alec Pringle
Email comment from Martin Jay, aka Distributor Doctor "I've just typed out a long & detailed reply & thought I'd submitted it to the Forum, only to find it's lost, no doubt, finger trouble here, v annoying. In summary, up to 1959 they used 40480, in 60 , 40698 was introduced, then in 62, 40735. As you'll know, the nice & concise commission numbers in the Stanpart catalogues don't reflect in the Lucas catalogues which use year only for indexing." Hopefully that helps someone. Bolded items above are the corrections!
