Nick Webster
Most things I read go on about using TR3 discs to upgrade a TR2 . I have a Tr6 in bits - can the front hubs discs brakes etc be used from this on my 2 ? There are some past discussions on this if you care to hunt them down but the short answer to your question is yes. There's a bonus that using later parts gives an improvement on unsprung weight due to smaller disc and caliper. The biggest problem is that the threads on the hydraulic pipes are incompatible. My suggestion is to have special "hard" pipes knocked up which have an appropriate thread on each end and then use the later flexible pipes to the caliper. When I did this conversion I also changed the master cylinder assembly for the later one - which meant changing the clutch cylinder too. At the time (some 25 years ago!) buying new cylinders was dirt cheap which made the conversion very attractive. I have recently aquired a TR2 with Lockheed drums (I thought that in mellow old age I might not be going so fast) but there is no denying they are dreadful. It is not that they won't stop the car, it is just difficult stopping all four corners at the same time. The adjustment mechanism is poor and snatch in the cold is quite alarming. Quiet at the back! stuart
If you're that worried, you may need to investigate the Revington rear disc conversion as well, although the price may make your eyes water Especially as they look like late Ford items Stuart.
