Hi everyone

Maybe this should be on the main forum?

I am a proud owner of a TR5 that has lots of history and would love to keep this going.

I used to own a TR6 and had this serviced at a local garage who said he was a specialist, but I nearly got ripped off as he never conducted half the work but tried to charge me a fortune for it. He only changed 4 of the plugs on a straight 6 engine I always thought there was 6 pots not 4, he only cleaned the oil filter instead of replacing it, god only knows if he changed the oil. These are only 2 of the items that I caught him out on. He was a cowboy in overalls and I refused to pay the bill and drove off.

The question is I would love to keep the service history going as the car has only had 2 owners from new, I can conduct the work myself as I am a qualified mechanic, but instead of having lots of receipts from where I purchased the items from would love to have the official literature with the history that I have. All I want is a good job at a reasonable price instead of everytime you say what you've got they add another £50 or more for the same job or worse still not doing the job at all. I won't name the garage but shall never go there again.

I live in a small village about 5 miles from a town called Lowestoft in Suffolk,

If you know of a good garage please forward me the recommendations

Many Thanks

Nibs

Hi Nibs, Try Manvers Triumph, Station Road Elmswell Suffolk. 01359 244417.

Its not that far from you and Clive Manvers seems to know what he is talking about.

Alternatively Marko ( Classic-marques ) may be able to help you with other suggestions.

as he also lives in the area .

Keep your own Service Log, just as many of us do - it's just as, if not more, valuable than any bills from a garage.

I record all the things which I do to the car (servicing, modifications, replacements etc) and with the car (International, Prescott, Brooklands etc), and have always done so. Similarly, I record the costs: petrol (and mileage, so that I can keep a check on mpg) and all other costs (parts, service items, repairs, additions etc).

There's a world of difference between a modern Euro or Oriental box, which is impossible to service without a laboratory and special tools, and a classic, which is a simple device on which almost anyone can do the majority of jobs. The value of a classic can only be enhanced by a really good personal Service Log - and you, too, would benefit by being able to refer back to discover when last you replaced the trafficator flasher unit or some other part.
