harrytr5
Hi All, Where does the steel clutch cylinder support bracket go,to the engine side of the gearbox ie..front of box or to the back of the box nearest to the crossfork lever. The only reason I am asking is I may have a later push rod which is longer than the geniune TR2 one and will have to cut it down.If I fit it all up with the support plate engine side the rod is okay but this seems wrong to me as you are pushing against the two mounting bolts through the alloy flange of the gearbox. When I spoke to the TR Dealers they could not remember and did not have a TR2 in at the moment. Can you help?. BrianC
Harry, Give TRGB a call - they have a 1955 TR2 for sale at present.
vivdownunder
Hi Harry, The steel bracket that the clutch slave cylinder attaches to mounts onto the rear of the gearbox flange. (diff side) The slave cylinder bolts onto the front of the mount bracket.(engine side) The threaded end of the stay rod is the top attachment bolt for the slave cylinder, but before you tighten it, the eye has to be adjusted to marry up with its sump bolt. Hope you have the stay rod. If it is not fitted, eventually the stress of the constant action of the clutch slave cylinder will break a big chunk off the gearbox flange. I have repaired such a breakage on a club member's car to save his gearbox, but it's a job better avoided. Regards, Viv.
