robgeev
Option 2. Gearbox (recon huh!) Has a chatter in top, overdrive slips out when hot, maybe should consider 5 speed conversion. Any ideas please- costs, or diy methods? Rob.

Send it to Tony LindseyDean - not cheap probably £700 ish, not quick allow a couple of months, but by reputation and the results I have seen one of the best gearboxes available, reconditions and improves, uprated clutches in the over drive, lay gear bearing mod, proper hardened shafts etc etc - you do get what you pay for. He does lots of gearboxes for racing trs. I have his email at work if you want to ask him. I think overdrive services are now also doing good repairs on Tr boxes Put an old stag gear box in while you wait - sell it after to recoup your money why have 5 gears when you can have the 7 original ? mike
North London Mike
Option 2.Gearbox (recon huh!) Has a chatter in top, overdrive slips out when hot, maybe should consider 5 speed conversion. Any ideas please- costs, or diy methods? Rob. Rob Have to agree with Mike, 7 is better than 5, more fun, more to play with and (when built to race) faster then a 5 speeder as a thumb moves faster than your leg/arm etc. Manvers Triumph re-built mine with uprated clutches and it clicks in and out as quick as you can thumb it.............budget £700-1000 for either a re-build or race re-con. Richardtr3a
if you are going to an overdrive specialist insist on two things 1 A written guarantee covering parts and labour 2 A location in Sheffield or Tony L-D Good luck, I have done this three times so far. robgeev
I have a Stag box with overdrive already spare, but was kind of saving it for my blue 6, as this is the one most likely to destroy its original box! Spoke to the guys in Sheffield today, £680 the pair, Moss with our discount was £580, but I don't know who actually does the work for them? More info on 5spd conversion welcomed-maybe fit this in the blue one, then my new unit into the red one. Rob.
Richard Crawley
More info on 5spd conversion welcomed-maybe fit this in the blue one, then my new unit into the red one. I seem to remember seing a thread on 5 speed conversions quiet recently so do a search but the upshot seemed to be that the Ford box used was just as marginal & had as many drawbacks as the original Triumph unit; personally I would never even dream of it as I can't believe it can be berret than a standard box with good A type strapped to it!
