gmw
Hi guys, After a bit of advice please. I am currently fitting a full heater system to my TR4. Everything is pretty much in-place, except I need to remove the two 7/16" square pegs (one in head for heater valve, and the other at back of water pump housing for return line) to fit the final pipework. What's the best tool to use to remove these? Appreciate any advice from those that have tackled this already. Thanks, Grant.
gmw
Quick update. Google searching says an 8 point socket is the tool for the job. Is that correct? Thanks, Grant.
RogerH
Hi Grant, an 8 point or better still a 4 point socket would be good. Roger
barkerwilliams
Grant, If you are desperate I have sucessfully undone 7/16 square pegs which are not easy to access with a makeshift tool. Cover peg with grease (adhesive) place small washers on two faces (or more) of the peg to act as shims held in place with the grease. Invert a 1/2" socket extension bar and place the socket over the peg. My torque wrench has a 1/2" square bar drive which can be removed and the torque wrench fitted over the square end of the socket extension. Or the hard metal of a socket extension works better with an adjustable wrench than the peg itself. But no argument that a four point socket would be the best. gmw
Thanks for the replies Roger & Alan - much appreciated. I've found 8 point socket online to purchase here; http://www.uktools.com/71634-inch-3834drive-point-26mm-long-double-square-soc-p-40286.html But can't find where to purchase 4 point socket. Any suggestion on that please? Many thanks. Grant.
peejay4A
I've never seen a 4 point but I routinely use an 8 point on my drain/filler plugs. It'll be fine.
gmw
Thanks Pete, and thanks again Roger & Alan. Will order the socket tomorrow. Thanks, Grant.
