It's the pits

Hi Chaps,

So have taken the head of the engine and extracted the tappets and camshaft...

As I suspected there was some serious pitting (had seen some by looking up while doing the bearings)..

3 of the lobes had worn sigfnicantly.. Wouldn't have done much for valve opening..

Cam had done about 40K miles and was a triumph tune item..

Also found that the pads of the rockers that act on the valves were V worn.. Again would reduce valve opening (impossible to set gaps properly!)..

No idea what was in there. But using standard now.
