Shropshire Group's Report for TR Action 347

Shropshire Group's Report for TR Action 347

It is, as I write, only just over a month since my last report for TR Action so there is not a lot to tell you about. Although, this does not mean that the Shropshire Group has been inactive.

Part of the 2023 European Meeting will be based in Llandrindod Wells, and we were tasked by the organisers (well, I had my arm twisted by Mick Forey and Andy Holyoak) to verify the routes that they had chosen for the runs. Shropshire Group members have individually and in small groups driven all the runs and reported back to Linda Forey any necessary fine-tuning. We had a great time doing this and it helped us appreciate just what wonderful scenery we have on our doorstep. I hope that these runs will help our European friends see that there is more to Britain than industrial towns and fish and chips.

The Dorothy Clive Garden is located on the Shropshire/ Staffordshire border near Market Drayton. It is a charitable garden trust set up by Colonel Harry Clive as a place of rest and continued horticultural education. On Sunday, 18th June, the garden hosted a Summer Music Day with a Vintage and Classic Car Display. Nine Shropshire cars undertook a short run to the garden. Once we had arrived, we were joined by the North Wales Group. This brought 20 TRs together and provided an impressive show.

Club Night, at The Fox and Hounds, in Shawbury was extremely well attended. Most members brought their TRs out into the sunshine.

Last year we had a scenic run to Black Rock Sands, Porthmadog for a beach picnic. We enjoyed it so much that we had to do it again! Sixteen cars took part and the run, over the Berwyns to Bala and then on to Porthmadog was sensational! After a picnic on the beach, we returned via the steam railway station in Llanfair Caereinion for tea. Many thanks to Greg Washington for organising this.

Having recently returned from our successful Spring Tour of Dumfries and Galloway, we were inspired to plan the 2024 event. The North York Moors was the location most voted for by our members. We reserved all 20 rooms in the Mallyan Spout Hotel in Goathland. All Shropshire Group members were emailed details at 6pm on Thursday 22nd June. By Friday lunchtime, all the rooms had been booked. In fact, members have taken additional accommodation elsewhere in the village!

There are more runs and events scheduled over the next few weeks; the first one being the Shrewsbury Classic Car Festival on 9th July.
