TR Action London Group report for issue 345

Mark Bulford writes: So, what have TRLG been up to since the London Classic Car Show? Well in addition to three group meetings we have been Clay Pigeon Shooting and joined the Easter Gathering at Brooklands.

The forecast at the beginning of the week was not good. Drizzle met the 11 of us when we arrived at Rural Pursuits in Surrey for some Clay Pigeon shooting. Big thanks to Graeme Cole who organised not only the Clay Pigeon shooting but also a superb country pub for a wonderful lunch where we could discuss all the missed shots and escaping clays. A brilliant day. As the week continued the forecast began to improve. Finally on the Easter Saturday we were met with blue skies and bright sunshine - PERFECT for the Brooklands Easter Gathering.

TRLG had arranged to meet up at Sainsbury’s Painshill at 8.00am for an 8.30am departure. 20 cars turned up glistening in the early morning sun but David Boucher (one of the organisers) was nowhere to be seen. This was to be the first showing of his newly restored TR3A since its unfortunate fire at Castle Coombe last year. Steve Bamforth finally at about 8.25am received a return call, It seems that David’s insurance had run out and with all the cameras and ANPR software around London he was not prepared to risk joining us, until he had it properly organised. At 8.30am 20 cars left Sainsbury’s Painshill and headed towards Brooklands. This is the second year we have really got behind this gathering and window passes indicated that we would be against the railings on the left side of the historic Start-Finish straight, the same as last year We had learnt that the best way to fill this space was from end-to-end, meeting in the middle plus we had a gazebo to erect in the middle of the line up.

On arrival at Brooklands David Goswell of Thames Valley was already in position against the railings and our plan sprang into action, leaving a space in the middle for the gazebo and a parking space for David Boucher’s TR3A for when he arrived. In addition to Dave Goswell from Thames Valley we were joined by 7 other cars from the Goodwood Group and others from Thames Valley. In total when David finally arrived at about 10.15am we counted 29 cars in our line-up. We had filled our space to such an extent that other “late” arrivals who wanted to join us couldn’t as we were full. In addition to our 2 TRLG flags it was nice to see Dave erect his Thames one too.

As I write preparations for TRLG’s involvement in Drive it Day led this year by Windsor Forest Group are well under way more about the in our next report

So finally, then come and join us for a noggin and a natter over a beer, you are most welcome. See our upcoming dates below - please keep an eye on your emails or on the web site http://www.tr-register.co.uk/group/london.
