TR Action London Group report for issue 339

TR Action London Group report for issue 339

Steve Bamforth writes; After the excitement of last month’s track day trip to Castle Coombe, London Group has continued to travel far and wide.
June started with 3 TRs and their drivers heading over to the Laon Historique in northern France – avoiding the Jubilee celebration weekend, but not the queues at French border control! The trio spent a day touring the First World War battlefields of the Chemin des Dames south of Laon before enjoying Saturday’s Road tour out to Saint Quentin through the magnificent French countryside. On the return journey to the UK Steve Bamforth took time out to visit the Dunkirk Memorial – a very sobering experience, especially as it also happened to the 6th of June.
Less far afield, the summer weather meant we had an excellent turnout for our second club night at The Star in Malden Rushett, with 13 TRs lined up in the car park – hopefully the trend will continue through the summer.
Mark Bulford and Steve Bamforth then headed off in Mark’s TR4A to participate in Club Triumph’s Coast to Coast run, joined by Paul Reynolds in his TR6. This year it started in Porthmadog, so we were treated to a tour of the Ffestiniog railway’s workshop on Saturday, before starting our over 400 mile run to Dungeness. The run wound its way through the fantastic scenery of the Snowdonia National Park, the Brecon Beacons, Cheddar Gorge, Salisbury Plain and the Weald before finishing with a well-earned breakfast at The Pilot Inn, Dungeness.
Finally, 5 TRs headed off to Classic Le Mans for a weekend of classic car racing and much socializing. Mark Bulford decided to make the trip more challenging by having his alternator fail (again!). However, he managed to make the trip there and back by rotating through 5 batteries and was met by a round of applause on boarding the ferry home!
So finally, then come and join us for a noggin and a natter over a beer, you are most welcome. See our upcoming dates below - please keep an eye on your emails or on the web site http://www.tr-register.co.uk/group/london.
