TRAction 309 - October 2018

What a strange time since the last report, not one of our group in a magazine (well not a car one) and no prizes (unless you count the £2 on a scratch card that cost me £2) however The Manger has been awarded the CAMRA Pub of the Month so that is another good reason for coming to a club night.

At least the weather has been good so loads of miles with the top down and because of the hot conditions I have treated the 6 to its annual re-waxoyl, neither the car nor I will rust. I have also had another emergency bonnet release catch fitted to satisfy my paranoia, this has necessitated another hole being drilled in the car which must now be considered a "lightweight TR6", anything to get the fuel economy up.

5/August/2018 - Helmingham

The Group has been busy with twelve cars at Helmingham on 5th of August, these included our own plus guests from Chiltern and Leicester Groups - good to see you and hope you can make it next year, the more the merrier and personally I would like to encourage this in order to meet more people. With the gardens, trade stands, live music and dancing and the ice cream - that alone makes it worth the trip - this is a great show for all the family. The show includes the spectacle of certain cars driving down the approach road with a masterful commentary by Brian Page who is able to switch from an Austin 7 to a Ferrari with his encyclopaedic knowledge. My brother-in-law who is not a classic owner, could not believe that people who own our types of car drive them there and then not only talk about them but also allow others to sit in them, that is what gets people interested. Our cars can be seen on the A&S page of the TR website in moving pictures thanks to Vince - I was expecting to see the Mighty Wurlitzer appear from the ground in front of the cars.

19/August/2018 - Breakfast @ Marks Tey

All this typing is making me hungry so on to the Breakfast meeting. Our latest one was at Poplar Nursery, Marks Tey and must be one of the best so far. Excellent choice of quality local food with brilliant staff. The large breakfast was indeed large and the scrambled egg with salmon was such a feast that I had to assist my good lady wife (hate seeing food go to waste). This was followed by a wander around the garden centre where the topiary Harley Davidson caught everyone's eye as did the asking price.
If you have not been to a breakfast meet yet look out for the e-mails or contact me on 01787282176 or e-mail TRmessagestewart@hotmail.com, it's ok as I have given myself permission under GDPR to reveal these details.

Polo Shirts

Vince has not only rebuilt the engine of his "daily driver 4" but has also distributed the first orders of the A&S Polo shirts and sweat shirts and caps, (the old Suffolk saying is horses sweat, men perspire and ladies merely glow) so if you would like to order your own please contact him at vincejbaker@gmail.com. Our apologies to anyone at Cars by the Lake Fornham on Sunday 2nd of September who may have been exposed to the sight of some of the male participants changing into their new shirts.

2/September/2018 - Fornham

Talking of Fornham, this was another good turnout - even though the organisers had us down as the TR Register and Stour Group (wonder if they are prohibitionists missing off the Abbott)? Attendees were Bob Bell (red 4a), David and Irene (red 5), John Miller (red 6), John and Lynsey (red 6), Peter and Maureen (red Peerless) and finally myself and Rob and Rosie, both in our Blue 6's just to prove that you can get them in another colour! Although this is a smaller show the quality and range of the cars is outstanding, my favourites were the Buckler and the dark blue Ferrari four seater estate. If only my garage were four feet longer and three feet wider.
With two good stands at these shows in terms of numbers of cars and members attending here's a thought for next year. Could we attend one of the larger shows such as Euston, Helmingham or Fornham and have a stand with every TR from a 2 to an 8 along with the Peerless/ Grinall etc cars. A tall order but with the number of members in A&S and the number of cars we own, at least it gives everyone nearly a year to think about it and let me know if they could attend. That would certainly be a spectacle for the public and good promotion for the Register.

Future Events

25/November/2018 - TR Register AGM. Have a look on the website for details, complete proxy voting forms if required and if you have any burning questions let the office know or send to me as I will be attending.

The "not the Xmas dinner", dinner. This year we will try something different by having a meal after Christmas by which time we will have been able to digest the last of the Chicken Curry, sprout soup and mince pies with cream, custard and anything else left at the back of the fridge. Look out for e-mails and the next report in TRaction.
