Dex
Hi Everyone. Just got my body tub back from the paint shop complete with all the loose panels (cracking job), my question is, where is it best to start? Is it best to put the doors on first and adjust the panel gaps to them or is it best to put the panels on and align the doors to those? As always any advice is very welcome, I'd be knackered without you lot and just hope I can help someone out myself some time. By the way if anyone in the Lancashire area wants a recommendation for a good paint and body shop ...get in touch I can't recommend the place I used highly enough. regards Dex
robgeev
Dex, first-put it on the chassis! Stand it on the floor, mount the doors, align the panels all at the same time if they're all loose. This is just my idea, I could be completely wrong! Rob.
Richard Crawley
Rob is right, first you need to get it mounted onto the chassis, even if you take it off again later! Are you just fitting the outer panels? Are the cills already welded in position? Were these removed & replaced? Are all of the inner panels, front & back valances in place? Have they been replaced? Have any of the other inner panels been replaced; A/B posts bulkhead etc? You should get all the panels to fit perfectly (inner & outer) on the chassis BEFORE painting, hope you did this! You should always start at the cills as the front & back swage lines dictate where the wings go & these in turn dictate door alignment. The whole thing is a multi-adjustment nightmare but if you take you time, work methodically & make the odd ‘adjustment’ you can get it as perfect as you want, just be prepared for a very time consuming exercise. To temporarily fix the outer panels, I used new spire clips but with the old fasteners initially to avoid damaging the plating, don’t seal the outer seams until you’ve got the fit as you want it (I used black gutter sealer!) I (and other members) would appreciate details of your bodyshop and painter Hi jemgee. Thanks for the invitation but can't make it this Sunday but I will get there one day I promise. The body and paint shop I used is: Auto Mirage Ltd. Peel Hall Business Park Peel Road Westby Lancs FY4 5JX Tel/Fax 01253 734743 Email: automirage@hotmail.co.uk Ask for Leigh or Terry they are the directors its only a small company but they do a really excellent job and they took over 100 photographs for me as the resto progressed. If anyone wants to see my 6 to see an example of their work they would be most welcome and by the way I'm in no way related to them or socialise with them ...its just credit where credit is due. regards Dex
