RogerH
Hi Folks A few years ago I made a reversing light built into the rear TR4/4A light unit. Recently I was asked about how they were put together. So here is a basic run through. The Lamp is a 12 V x 5W MR11 LED down lighter - apprx 50W if a filament bulb. These fit into the 0square reflector space below the amber section. The MR11 complies with the MOT rules. The bigger MR16 is too big. First job is to mark the centre spot of the reflector and then make a 28mm hole. I used a sheet metal stepped cutter. Then it is mounted in a lathe on a jig to counter bore the inner face with the point bits. This allows the front glass and lens to sit flat and can be sealed. Next is to spin a bezel. This is done on my metal cutting lathe. It will easily spin something this small. The outer flange needs to be big enough to make it look tidy. The bulb is held in place with two wire clips. These in turn are help in with another pair of clips. My first attempt at a silvered reflector looked rather scabby - I ended up with a simple square plate held down with the lamp clips The over all look is quite pleasing. And they illuminate well 2 x 50W. NOTE - the inner face of the metal body needs a hole cut in it for the wires to pass through. Roger Edited May 4 by RogerH
