Rear brake plate orientation

Recommended Posts

reassembling rear brakes and although the picture attached reflects the same brake plate position that was on the car before I disassembled, I am wondering if it needs to be rotated down once? If kept on this position then the intake cables will go through the check strap. Please advise. Please wait while image is uploading...

Assembled wrongly   Needs to be rotated so the cylinder is in the lower quadrant and the brake lever pointing upwards to align with the cable coming from the compensator    Cables do not go through the check strap hoops.

see following images.   .

Note the brake assembly sketch is of the early 9 “ diameter drum brake
