Fitting new Racetorations exhaust manifold - new studs & nuts or not?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

i'm in the process of fitting a Racestorations s/steel exhaust manifold and s/s exhaust system.

Having taken the old cast iron manifold and throttle bodies off, some of the manifold nuts came off leaving the old studs in the block.  Others the nut was seized and the whole stud came out.  Interested to know if I should leave those studs, or replace all the studs with new studs and nuts?

If replacing the studs, I'm not sure where the longer studs go, or where the shorter studs go?

Finally I'm planning to make a heat shield between the s/s manifold and throttle bodies; to fit some heat shielding to the starter motor; and to put some réflective heat tape on the underside of the throttles.  I've been guided against wrapping the exhaust manifold, as the wrap can get oily with age and present a fire risk.

Thoughts, Gents?
