David Murison
I have a problem with the horn on my 1973 TR6. When I press the centre boss the horn works fine but when I insert the ignition key the horn will not work. I think it may be an earthing issue can anyone help, suggestions please. RobH
If you mean just putting the key in the lock rather than when turning the ignition on - maybe the horn is earthing via the steering-lock mechanism and the key somehow interrupts the earth path. There is an earth wire which bridges the universal joint in the steering shaft - maybe that has broken? Have you tried connecting an earth wire direct to the steering column shaft ?
David Murison
I haven't tried connecting an earth wire to the steering column shaft but I did connect an earth wire to the from battery directly to the key boss but that didn't work.

It wouldn't. That is the outer shaft- it is the inner one that needs earthing, accessible under the bonnet.
