Geoff Davies
I am looking for help on what gap to set the points at. The car is a CF engined tr6 that has been converted to injection and a cam added. Should be somewhere 150bhp. The gap when I changed the points was clearly greater than the standard setting of 14 - 16thou. I have seen suggestions that it should be nearer 20? any help would be welcome. Thanks Geoff
Tom Fremont
Hi Geoff, In 30 years of continous ownership I've never seen fit to vary from 0.015" clearance on the points. If I understand correctly, less gap = hotter spark and more gap = cooler spark. If you want to heat up the spark somewhat, you could increase the plug gap to 0.030" from 0.025" and use a Sport Coil. I do these, with NGK BP6ES plugs on an engine of similar power, albeit on Webers. Sublime running with clean plugs. Cheers, Tom
