mcgrison
Hello everybody, the screw retaining the lower clamp of the steering colomn on my TR4A is worn out. Is it a stud welded to the back of the metal fascia panel? Any idea on how to fix it without dismantling everything there? Thank you Alberto
RogerH
Hi Alberto, I think they should be 1/4"UNF. If the thread has been damaged/worn it may be possible to run an M6 die down it (DieNut if you can find one.) As you know, the best way od to take it all apart and fit a new stud. mcgrison
Thanks Roger. I will try something as you suggest. If this doesn't work, I could make a vertical hole of 5 mm in a 10 mm stud and thread with a 1/4 UNF tap. I could then lock it with Attack glue. Subsequently I will slightly mill the hole in the clamp to make room to the new 10 mm stud . What do you think?
mcgrison
Fixed! I used a piece of a M10 screw, made a hole in it and thread M6, as Roger suggested. I screwed it till the end of the existing worn out 1/4"UNF stud . It is very tight. Then I enlarged slightly the hole in the clamp to make room for the new bigger stud . Best wishes to everybody!
