Alfie14
Hi RobH Test the delay unit, it works as suggested, so next stage replace the tank sender. Thanks to the forum for all the help. Andy
RobH
Before you go to the extent of taking the sender out Andy, make sure first that the sender has a good earth connection. If that isn't there neither the warning lamp nor the gauge will operate so it could simply be a bad contact.
DaveR
There should be three leads on the sender. One for the gauge, Green/Black. One for the low fuel switch, Green/Orange. One for the earth, Black. As RobH has said if there is no earth then both the light and the gauge will not work. Having changed a tank in the TR7 in the past as far as I can remember it is not earthed itself, hence the sender must have the black lead connected to work. Alfie14
The earth connection to the tank sender is good, having drained several gallons of petrol from the tank l have also replaced the sender unit and filled with a couple gallons. With the ignition on the low fuel warning light comes on after a few seconds but no movement on the fuel gauge which would suggest the gauge is faulty. As the gauge is longer available does anyone know if they can be repaired. Hope this is the end of this saga. Many thanks to all the forum members. Andy
DaveR
A quick check is too touch the gauge lead at the tank to ground the gauge should go to full. If not then problem may be the gauge or the dreaded flexible printed wiring at the back of the instrument pod. Talk to Robsport or S & S Conversions as they may have a good secondhand gauge available. Dave
