heliguy
While getting the right hand wing off this evening i noticed a bracket ( actually 2, one on each side) in the engine bay that I have no clue as to what it is for. It is mounted about 1 inch aft of the prop rod bracket and it is a pressed piece of metal, about 2 inchesx2.5 inches and it welded to the inner fender. In the center of this bracket is a hole, about 1 inch or so in diameter. There is an identical bracket on the other side of the engine bay. Any ideas? cheers, Mitch
Guest harry dent
Hi, These are lifting brackets for the factory production line. The shells were moved above the completed chassis (frame) by attaching chains and hooks to the lifting brackets, then lowered onto the chassis(frame). The shells were painted in Liverpool then transported to Coventry. Tom Fremont
Further to Harry's post, these lifting eyes are not present on replacement inner fenders, so have to be cleaned up and reused when replacing same for originality's sake. One must of course replicate the scruffy looking welds as per factory
heliguy
Thanks for the info Harry and Tom, much appreciated! I do agree about the scruffy welding on the brackets ( among many other welded parts on this TR) But the good news is that I now have a place to hook onto when I lift the body shell off the chassis. I have gotten the final "wing" off and now will concentrate on getting the body off and the chassis sorted out. cheers, Mitch
