TR6 with stage-2 lightened and balanced engine

Recommended Posts

Purchased this 1974 TR6 recently, found a receipt for the 2005 installed CP stamped stage-2 engine, I can see from removing the rocker cover the head has roller rockers. double valve springs and bronze valve guides.

The distributer has been replaced with a modified version, according to receipts.

sports exhaust with 6x3x1 extractors installed.

Engine a little smokey (blue), checked compressions all between 150-170, suspect valve guide wear.

Engine "hunts" with 11 degree BTDC dynamic strobe set up, any ideas as to what the correct timing would be?

11 degrees BTDC is the correct advance for a standard CP engine. Depending upon how much the flywheel has been lightened that could affect the idle. Is it still on PI and if so has the metering unit been adjusted to cater for the mods?

Sounds like a fun car, whereabouts are you?

Name would be nice too :-)

had the TR out for a fairly long burst last night, was running ok, when arrived back at the house the temp had started to rise dramatically and the rocker cover cap vent had sprayed oil over most of the head, sounds like the head will have to come off at least.

Still pulls like a train, but could not drive anywhere decent with this situation.

Frank.
