john.r.davies
The Deregulation Act received Royal Assent on the 26th March 2015! This Act is a general dustbin of various pieces of legislation, repealing old outdated Laws and enacting many other things, but paragrpahs 73-74 may be of interest 73.Motor racing on public roads: general 74.Motor racing: road closures 75.Motor racing: consequential amendment You can read the engrossing text of these measure at: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/20/contents/enacted/data.htm Basically, it amends the Road Traffic Act of 1988, repeating that of 1930 that forbade " the holding of races or trials of speed between motor vehicles on public ways in England and Wales" to allow it! It provides for the Scottish Parliament to do the same, if the spirit moves them, and also for traffic authorities to close roads for motor sporting events. Remarkable! Given the deaths on the Jim Clarke last year, which IMHO kicked this project into the long grass. So we can hope to see rallies at competitive speed on public roads, closed for the purpose, and who knows? Formula One in London? I'll not hold my breath. JOhn
