TR5tar
I've got the dreaded MOT coming up towards the end of the month, so as well as that I've asked my local TR expert to service the car. But, never having had a TR serviced before, I wonder if anyone could tell me what I should expect to be done as part of a service? I imagine they'll change the coolant and oil, and grease the nipples (all things I'll try myself in time), is that right? What else would be standard, or is there not a standard type of service on TRs? Thanks, Darren

JohnG
Michael Have you tried using the psychotic kids as assistants during the service? They could do the fetching and carrying, moving of the steering wheel when needed, pumping the brake pedal, etc etc As long as they are related to you, child labour laws can be ignored

The last time my three year old tried to help while I was washing the car, she 'found' a sponge to start cleaning one side with - it was one of those washing up sponges - you know the sort with the green scouring side........ Thanks for the thought though! Michael
TR5tar
Wow, that's quite a list Michael. Thanks for sharing and scaring my wallet. Dare I ask if that lot ran you into the hundreds or thousands? Some of those things I have done myself recently, so I'll have to let the garage know that. Was all that done in a day for you, or did it take longer? Thanks, Darren
CONCRETE24
Hi Darren, Don't know how long that took - car would have been there for a week so probably over the course of a couple of days. Around £600 from memory - that was a couple of years ago. When you look at the list - you don't necessarily have to have all that done - but if someone is charging you hundreds of pounds - they should be able to produce you a comparable, itemised list. If they can't quantify what they are going to do for you - then walk away! Like you say - tell them what you have already done and make sure it is taken out from what they charge you. Also sense check what they are charging you for - e.g. you will see the 'n\a' by points on mine - it's because I have electronic ignition - don't get charged for things you don't have! Last thing - if you have a good experience then share it! Regards, Michael.
