Eddie Cairns
I’m looking to buy some larger than 1 ¼” AF sockets that may require to be used on British cars from the 50’s to 80’s. Rather than buy all the sizes from 1 ¼ to 3” AF, I’m looking to have the popular ones that would be on BMC and Standard Triumph cars not commercials. What I have found to date are detailed below, has any one further suggestions. 1 5/16” lots of BMC cars and I have a one.34mm is similar. 1 13/16” 1500 Midget and 1500 Spitfire crankshaft pulley nut. 46mm is similar. 1 7/8” Midget rear hub nut. 48mm is similar. I will buy impact sockets that are hex i.e. six sided. I noticed the MGA has a 1 15/16” eight sided rear hub nut but they seem difficult to source and I only know of one car in the area, so I will let the owner look after that. Comments welcome and cross posted on various Triumph, MG and other BMC forums. eddie
Paul Down
Depending on what quality sockets you are looking for a budget 3/4" drive Metric socket set may give you most of the sockets you seek. I bought a set years ago and although they do not get a lot of use they have never let me down and the long 3/4" bar does give a fair bit of leverage, even more with a scaffold tube attached!
