malcolm
If you keep a weather eye on ebay for TR7 and TR8 stuff then you will probably have seen the 'Triumph TR8 drag racing car' that sold last week. There has been a fair amount of discussion about the car which bears an uncanny resemblance to the Janspeed/ADA TR8 turbo car that competed at Le-Mans in 1980 (sponsored by the TR Register). This is all very topical as Bert Smeets has only recently purchased the Le-Mans TR8 and is planning to re-commision it for historic competition. Back to the drag car. It has just been bought by Alec Pringle who knows the original car better than most (all?) of us having been involved in the 1980 Le-Mans team. Alec suspected that it bore more than a passing resemblance and he was right. In-fact the drag car was built by Peter Nott and Philip Eaves (Peter Nott was the owner of the Le-Mans car from 1985 until very recently) using a very similar (95%) steel tub and the original fibreglass moulds. Hence the uncanny resemblance! I hope to see the TR8 drag car in the near future, but for those of you who missed the auction, here are a couple of pictures. Alec is looking at required modifications to make it road legal. A link to a full gallery is HERE. Interesting times for the TR7 in it's 30th year. Both the TR8 Le-Mans car and this remarkable Peter Nott dragster 'replica' are with worthy owners  Malcolm.
malcolm
It's not my car, by the way - it's Diane's. Sorry - I knew that too having spoken to her a few times about it! Malcolm.
