Dave Herrod
I know this should be obvious, but does anyone have any tips on how to get a new felt bush into the top of the steering column. I have soaked the felt in oil as recommended ,but it seems to be about twice as fat as it needs to be.
david ferry
Don't bother fitting it. Speak to Revington TR about their nylon replacement. Costs £10.28. Easier to fit and works well/lasts longer Link here hopefully to their Website page Revington Nylon Steering Column Bush

Guest captain
I just fitted one last weekend after soaking it in oil. Had to make sure that it was lined up as a true cylinder and - ie the sloping ends were not out of line and then eased (forced?) it in with a small screwdriver to get it started along the bottom edge and then just kept twisting it as though screwing it in. Tapped the last few mm with a small wooden drift to the bottom. Surplus oil everywhere. I assume old one is out first. It sure is tight though and has stiffened the steering up a lot. Hopefully it will wear in a bit over the next few weeks.
