simon
I know I should have paid attention before, but which coil do I need a ballast resitor type or not? My engine is a SD1 v8 efi patched into my tr7 loom. Can I use the cheaper Rimmer Bros Lucas one?
malcolm
Hello Simon. I spent a while looking at this when I fitted the electronic ignition to my V8 DHC. The standard TR7 loom has a resistive wire. 12 volts goes to the coil when starting, but only 6v when running. The Rover SD1 resistor is a flat metal block in the engine bay doing the same job. Your V8 will either: 1) Have no SD1 resistor and TR7 resisitive wire bypassed/removed - you need a 12v coil 2) Either the SD1 resistor is installed OR the resistive wire is still in use - you need a 6v coil 3) Both resistors are in place! - you need to remove at least one from the circuit You can (obviously) use a voltage meter to check what is happening to your coil when starting and running. johnwood
malcolm just wondering how many times you've thought about the 3.9 in the disco finding its way into a
malcolm
Unfortunately the bodywork and chassis on the 3.9 V8i Disco are fine. I did occur to me once or twice though :: Malcolm.
simon
Thanks Malcolm nice wheels on your 7 by the way! I don't have the ballast resitor fitted from the SD1, is it easy to find the TR7 resitor wire?
