IMMOBILISER FOR LESS THAN £5

Recommended Posts

I have fitted this system to several classics and no-one has ever been able to start the car without help.

It only requires one 5 pin change-over relay and some wiring -all can be done under the bonnet.

How it works - the relay is wired so that when you turn the ignition key to starter position the relay is energised this then switches the horn button to the starter solenoid - pressing the horn button while still holding the key in start will start the car.

Turning just the key does not operate the starter.

Pressing just the horn button still sounds the horn - what thief would choose to press the horn while stealing your TR6?

I have tested this but no-one has ever started the car.

Attached is a circuit diagram suited to RHD 1973 ( and most others ) TR6s.

Please do not publicise this as it reduces its effectiveness.

To describe the wiring changes -

disconnect the white/red wire from the starter motor & connect this to pin 85 on the relay

connect pin 86 to chassis

disconnect the purple/yellow from terminal C1 of the horn relay connect a wire from C1 to pin 30 on the relay

connect a wire from pin 87 on the relay to the starter motor where you previously removed the white/red wire

connect the wire you removed from horn relay C1 to pin 87A

This circuit could be modified for other cars.

Even if you left the keys in the ignition say at a show or re-fuelling the car can not be taken and no need to remember to switch on/off or hidden switches.
