Wow thanks for posting that news to me,Alan Healy what a man rip. He was what grass root rallying was all about and a great club chairman also a big fan of classic cars.As for the event this is one hell of a challenge to all, I did it many years ago :o even a famous course car driver could not get to grips with it clue (Mazda rx7)

try going down the mountain with mud on the track :P the bike boys think it is cool to pull a wheelie going up  Emma hopefully will be marshalling and I will try to be there if I can source a car.if not I will go anyway as this is not one to miss

Hi

Generally the historic stage rallies have 3 categories for old stuff, cat 1 is per 65 ..... TR4 is competitive, cat 2 is escort mk1 territory and we just get eaten alive mostly ! Cat 3 is mk2' then moderns etc

Sadly, no historic classes. Sounds a nice event, I did a similar moderns-only tarmac stage rally last year but the poor old TR4 was hoplessly outclassed even though we didn't finish last - we beat all the cars which had problems!!! Naturally the TR4 is in the over 2-litre class which is the fastest of the 2WD cars, but even the smaller cars had the advantage although they didn't beat us by as much as some of them were expecting to.

We were able to hold some of the slower moderns off on straight line performance, but lost out on the corners, and most of all were slaughtered on braking. As for the WRC cars, I just concentrated on getting out of the way as quickly as possible........

That's exactly the problem .... Straight and flat out on the smooth the TR4 can be very very quick as we all demonstrate against the Escorts and 911's but as soon as we introduce corners or rough stuff it all goes slow. Braking is always another issue ... Hence all the stuff I did on the rear brakes (and ended up NOT liking the 10 inch alloy things offered by a well known TR restorer as they have a tendency to fall part due to poor design and manufacture !) but simply unless you retrofit modern carbon brakes it's not great!

One for another time perhaps.

Article 7.2 of the regs, 'racing circuit and sealed surface access roads'. That's preferable for a TR though; as Tony says it all goes pear-shaped if there's any ruff stuff.... I'm aiming to keep to tarmac in future after bending the chassis in the Welsh forests last year!

It's good value at £250 entry fee (by stage rally standards!), if it were closer to me I'd give the TR4 an airing as a warm-up after the winter layoff. I know some people scoff at single venue stage rallies but I always enjoy them. I hope they get a good entry.

STOP PRESS, Alan Healy's co-driver Alan Glover will be attending the event

Rallying makes a welcome return to Cadwell Park after a break of eight years on Easter weekend, when on the the 8th April Border Motor Club organises the Alan Healy Memorial Cadwell Park Stages Rally. There will be up to 10 stages, totalling around 45 miles, which will utilise the circuit and tarmac access roads.

Using this venue again came about following a conversation with the owners, Motorsport Vision, by one of the former officials of South Bank Motor Club that ran rallies there for sixteen years in the 80’s and 90’s. As they are not actively organising events anymore, that person contacted Border, as he was keen to see another local motor club involved. When news of the event became known, some former members of South Bank offered their assistance with the running of the event. This rally came at an opportune time for Border as the previous place used by them had not been available for a few years, and club members were ready to put to good use all the expertise they had gained from the events they had organised here.

The rally is being run in memory of Alan Healy, the late President of Border Motor Club and one of the Club's founder members. His great enthusiasm in all he did in Motorsport had an influence on everybody who knew him. In a long and varied career Alan had been a driver, a steward, sponsor, Clerk of Course, Lombard RAC control officer and several other titles; but he was just as comfortable and at home operating a radio or simply being a marshal. Alan had been at the first of the South Bank Cadwell stages, and the club think he would approve of Border now carrying on the tradition of organising events at this great venue.

The supplementary regulations for the event are now published and entries received, including one from a former event winner in a MKI Ford Escort, and two WRC Subaru’s
