MikeTR-6
Hi All . Seeking correct valve spring advice . My 3a has as far as i can tell has a late 4a engine / head engine number CT35***E Head cast number 511695 The valves stems are 5/16". The books say double springs inlet & exhaust are correct for engines number CT21740E -> On inspection i found i have double inlet triple exhaust springs+ spacer as fitted to early 3/8" stem valve set up. Was going to order an uprated set of 4a doubles from Moss But on a search i read someone had the same problem , they found the uprated springs didnt fit properly and refitted the old springs. Not sure if they removed the 3rd damper spring spacer or not .anyone have a more conclusive answer. Mike Edited January 4, 2012 by MikeTR-
RogerH
Hi Mike, unless you are racing your engine think twice about uprated springs. They probably will not improve performance but will certainly reduce the life of the cam and followers. Roger
RAHTR4
Hi Mike, In my opinion the best option is to use a set of standard double valve springs. In order to do this you will have to make a couple of changes. Firstly you will have to discard the original (4 No.) third valve spring spacers. Secondly you will not be able to use the original (8 No.) valve spring retaining collars. The correct "two valve spring type" collars must be used. The differences between the collar types can be seen in the photo below : Regards, Richard
MikeTR-6
Thanks for your advice the picture was very helpful , definitely have the early spring and collar set up on a late head . Will get a set of standard road springs and collars. Mike
