Tr2-3a Steering wheel and center boss

Recommended Posts

I was Just browsing the ebay as one does and I came across a picture of the interior of a Mayflower. The steering wheel and centre boss ( horn button and indicators) look just like the one on my 3a. Could someone "in the know" confirm or deny this ?

Cheers

Extract from the Mayflower's Instruction Book

It looks to me as though the wheel is the same, however, if the picture is accurate, the indicator and horn assembly (Control Head) are similar, but not identical to the TR2 / TR3 fitting.

The picture that got me thinking is in this auction http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws....17&rd=1 ( sorry have no web hosting for piccies) and the head unit  doesn't look like the one in clives piccie.

PS the cars still for sale would make a nice garden ornament if nothing else.

Standard disclaier, I have nothing to do with the car or auction, I was just interested in parts interchangability!

That looks like a TR Control Head to me!  What's more, by the faded brown look it looks like an original Bakerlite one.  (Which may mean that the sellers statement about having no modifications is untrue unless Triumph changed the control head during production)

A replacement one in plastic is about £120.00.  That's got to make the car worth at least £200.00 for the control head alone... as long as it's working and hasn't been modified!

Also, pictures are two years old... (I don't believe the bit about the camera resetting itself) if it's been stood outside for 2 years... hmmm....

kiwifrog,

I believe that some of the Vanguard models did have an identical control head to the TR.  I actually have one in my spares box which is identical in all respects, except the horn button has a blue TR style shield badge.  I have seen this `shielded' badge on other restored TRs.  I'm sure that Standard used a lot of common components in their various models.....

Cheers,

Chris

Forgive my ignorance, but how did you guys get pictures into the body of the posting?

Tutorial please.

Does it depend on the picture being hosted elsewhere as an URL? And by using the "image"  button?

Hi Rob,

I was asking myself the same question until I find that you can see the code generating the Post by clicking on the

upper right field above the post, called "quote" and you can see that always when an image is imbedded it is related to an URL an this is probaly due to the fact they do not have the space to store your image online , and what they did is just to give you the addressability to an image stored somewhere in the net. So if you want to add an image to a post you should have it stored first on a web site.

This is how I understand the process.

That's correct... and what you must remember is that there are web sites who specialise in hosting pictures and also that most people have web space included in their dial up account... all you need to do is find out how to "upload" to it!

:blues:

As for the cross use of parts, as I said in my post, it appeared to be different unless Standard Triumph changed it at a later date... the picture I posted was taken from an original owners manual from an early (I believe) car!

Talking about posting pictures do you have any more new photos  of your TR2. The detailed and interesting postings of its restoration are what got me interested in the forum to start with.

Gawd, that image looks a bit big, but it is my first attempt :)

This is the control head I have in my spares box.  It is the same as the TR except for the horn button...

Cheers,

Chris
