Davidw
Always used a wire brush myself assuming they are servicable and arent oiled up etc. Robin I always ude a suede brush which is made of brass and thus won't remove metal from the plug (or damage the insulator) but will remove carbon. Also, hold the brush below the plug and have the plug facing downwards so that the removed crud doesn't gather round the insulator only to fall onto the piston when reinserted. jemgee
After cleaning with brass spark plug brush I use a wedge of fine wet and dry paper to clean the gap between the electrodes, set the gap and then finally use petrol to wash out and clean the insulator and tweak the terminal screw tight (gently) with pliers
tr6tuga
Thank you all, remember to hold the plug face down, that's one of those things that you forget because is so obvious!
