Help for Newcomers

If you're a new HRCR member and want to go historic rallying, attending a Newcomers Rally School day is the best way to start. These days are absolutely ideal for complete beginners to historic road rallying and also suitable for competitors who have done a few rallies and wish to learn more to improve their performance, or find out what they've been doing wrong! The instruction is particularly tuned to the type of events that will comprise the HRCR Clubmans Rally Championship. The HRCR runs these training days periodically and in various locations. >> Further Information

Ex-Works Monte Cars to feature at HRCR Open Day January 2011

The 2011 HRCR Open Day is on Saturday 15th of January, at the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon, situated just off J12 of the M40. The event will be celebrating 100 Years of the Monte Carlo Rally and a number of ex-works cars and cars that took part in the early events will be on display.

The Austin Mini Cooper S 1071cc, registration number 569 FMO, that was a BMC works entry in the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally, will form the centre part of the "Celebrating 100 years of the Monte Carlo Rally" display. This car was driven by Rauno Aaltonen & Tony Ambrose, carrying Rally plate number 105. It achieved a creditable placement of 7th overall and came 3rd in its class having started the rally from Oslo. It was fitted with the first type of Triplex heated windscreen using a gold film between the laminations and ran on Dunlop Duroband tyres. This was the only event that BMC entered the car in, before it was sold to Mike Wood. It is kindly loaned by Chris Everard of JME Healeys who have faithfully restored it to its original state.

Displayed alongside the Mini will be a recently restored Ex-Works Triumph TR3, registration number SKV 656, which competed in the 1958 Monte Carlo Rally. This car started from Glasgow and finished 3rd in class and 13th overall. It has kindly been provided by HRCR member Neil Fender.

It is also hoped to include another famous works car from the Monte Carlo years of the 1960's. It is a car that has been under wraps for many years, and providing the current full restoration is competed on time, the HRCR Open Day will be its first public appearance.

There has been an unprecedented response for display space and all the usual features will be included.

The HRCR Championships will launch their 2011 season and organisers of the various championship events will be in attendance. Scenic Tour organisers will also be on hand to promote their events.

Both CRA and HERO have again taken space as well as other commercial specialist suppliers to the Historic Rally movement.

Richard and Pat Egger have been busy in re-stocking our HRCR CLUB SHOP and will have a selection of competitively priced goods to tempt you.

Entry is free to all.

Join the HRCR at the Open Day and receive one of our HRCR Navigator Bags entirely free of charge.
