Richard Crawley
Received my RS test gauge this morning but the damping fluid has a huge bubble in it. A small bubble to allow for expansion I can understand but this is probably a good teaspoon full! There is no staining on the box so it obviously hasn’t leaked, is this normal? There is a small valve on the top, presumably to allow for filling the thing up, anyone know what the damping medium is? Should I try & top the thing up myself or send it back - more waiting & expense!
Guest andythompson
Richard, I just checked with the maintenance supervisor in my office and he says that is completely normal... test away!!!
Richard Crawley
Thanks Andy, I remembered an old friend of mine is an Instument Engineer & he also confirmed that it's quite normal.
JohnC
...and if you want to top it up, the fluid is most likely glycerine - available at your local chemist. As others have said, a bubble is no problem. Just don't leave your gauge in the sun - the expansion will push fluid out of the top-up plug, and believe me it goes everywhere!
