jhk
Hi TR Folks, We had to remove a lump weight from my TR4A IRS gear box to facilitate twin exhaust pipe installation. Looks like some kind of mass for vibration balancing. It is circular and approx 7 inches in length including the circular clamp. The mass is approx 3" in diameter, and 2-1/2" high. There is a bolt connecting the mass to the circular clamp. The circular clamp has a single nut and bolt to tighten it. Sorry I cannot attach a picture put I have not enough "global quota" left. I cannot find it in the parts book. Any body got the back ground on it, and are there any concerns with running without it? Many thanks, Best Regards

Your guess is correct - it's an anti-vibration device. Benefits are marginal at best. No problem to remove it. The strap from the gear lever base to the mounting point is more effective and should not be removed. There are a number of threads on this, and not so long ago, if you back through the 4/4A Forum. TR 2100
Many thanks for the swift reply Alan !! I will keep the blob for posterity. Further thoughts, and perhaps a more balanced opinion. The 'blob' may not do much good but it doesn't do any harm. With the TR 4-pot having resonance range (2800~3000rpm) and the gearbox a bit prone to 'chatter' anyway, it's probably better to do all you can to reduce this (then learn to live with it). If you didn't have a 'blob', not a big deal to leave it off, but if you have it, may as well fit it. Triumph engineers were invariably on the ball and weren't known for fitting anything that was superfluous. AlanR
