Patching floor... how best?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Getting on slowly with the bodywork - will post some pictures at some point... next step is to put a patch into the centre of the floor, most of it is perfect, but one bit needs a patch dropping in. Question is, do you joddle the edge of the floor down (where you've cut the rusty bit out) or joddle the edge of the patch up? Most likely it doesn't matter, but any advice gratefully received!

Also - is there an idiots guide to replacing sills anywhere?

Ta

Are we talking....with the body on or off the car ?.... a butt weld would look neater, joddling down would expose the " gap" to the elements

underneath the car.The alternative would require welding from the underside. The gap would be inside the car...not so pretty but it would be under the underlay /carpet , out of sight.

As I always comment...." your car, your decision...you set the standards you are happy with "

Roger Williams book How to Restore Triumph TR4 & TR4A covers the subject of sill replacement and many other things.See the TR Register's home page and click on the shop section, then books.( The latest edition combines TR3s with the 4s ).Whatever you do with the sills.. DO brace the door gap with a welded bar of steel....before attacking the old sill removal

good luck with it.
