PaulR Posted April 2, 2010 Report Share Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) MOT for CT 24209 is due next week so as I went round checking everything I noticed quite a lot of play in the n/s rear wheel. Having spent the morning reading various posts I am still not sure how difficult job it would be to replace the rear bearings if indeed this is what is needed. Rhodri Posted April 2, 2010 Report Share Posted April 2, 2010 I would, if it has wire wheels, check that the adapter is bolted tightly to the rear hub, they do loosen sometimes. If it is indeed the rear bearing that wants doing, it is quite tricky, involving a large press to push the thing apart. Some posters on here have used local engineers etc, I used TR Enterprises, as they were the only TR specialist prepared to do it as there is a risk of causing damage. If damage does occur, I believe that all the parts are available new. Another, quicker and cheaper way may be to purchase a secondhand assembly from someone like TR Trader. RogerH Posted April 2, 2010 Report Share Posted April 2, 2010 Hi Paul, check the adaptor/hub nuts as Rod suggests also the six nuts that hold the hub onto the trailing arm - do not overtighten these. Check also the big nut in the middle of the nut. These can be nylok or castle nut with split pin - make sure it hasn't slackened off. If it is the bearings then if you rotate the hub it will probably make an interesting rumbling sound. The easiest solution is to buy an exchange unit - however if you do, make sure that the unit feels good when rotated whilst in the shop. There are some poor refurbs about. Unless your kitted out for serious engineering then DIY on the hub is full of suprises. Rogerh Quote Link to post Share on other sites
