ts1144
I replaced my original leaking master cylinder with a re-sleeved unit. This started leaking within a year, luckily as its leaking out through the front, it does not drain empty and can be refilled. Do I buy another unit or reseal my own, the brake fluid is spoiling my paint. Is there a good one on the market. Chris
Alec Pringle
Hi Chris, it may just be the result of a seal having been damaged on reassembly ? In which case it is worth carefully stripping and fitting a new seal kit. I have solved a similar problem by first soaking the new seals in power steering 'stop leak' for a couple of days before use, then cleaning with meths and drying off. The 'stop leak' very slightly softens and swells the seals, which can make the difference between weeping and not. Yes I know it sounds like a rock ape technique, but it's worked and without any subsequent problems. Apart from anything else, seals which have been sitting around for a few years can harden slightly, a process which the 'stop leak' reverses. Cheers, Alec
