Philippe_TR3a
Hi all, this is my first topic on this Forum so be comprehensive... My TR3A (post 60000) fuel gauge was working well up to one day where the indication seems to have been divided by 2 ! Full tank gives a half tank indication. I have checked the ground connection on the sender unit (works well), the sender itself has a resistor between 20 and 80 Ohm while moving. I didn't touch the fuel gauge yet. Any ideas to help me ? Steve R
Hi Philippe Have a look at the MG Guru site, chapter and verse on how to repair and calibrate the fuel gauge. http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/fg_10.htm Regards Steve Edited July 24, 2009 by Steve R
Don Elliott
When I fill up the tank in my 1958 TR3A, my fuel gauge reads F (full). It stays there for about 60 to 100 miles. Then suddenly the needle starts to read correctly - all the way down to E. I don't consider this to be a problem. I know I will never run out of fuel. I know several TR owners who carry a long stick (like a wooden metre stick) to stick down into the tank to know how much fuel is left. On a 1960 TR3A we finished in 2006, we had to replace the sensing module located on the top of the tank. The securing holes were positioned 30 degrees out so when we installed it, the float on the new sensor unit was hitting the back wall of the fuel tank inside. So we removed the new unit, bent the thin rod holding the float and re-installed it. It is now working as it should. The photo shows both the old unit (left) and the new unit on the right.
