67_gt6
IRS car. For a while I have had a clunk a the passenger side rear if that wheel goes over a bump. Recently it has felt that, if that wheel goes over a big bump at speed, the car squirrels slightly from the rear, almost like spline lock. If I go over a bump with both rear wheels there is no noticeable effect. I have CTM Engineering rear damper conversion with Koni dampers, about 12k on them. Everything is tightened up properly. I get no clunks at take off indicating broken diff mount studs. Cornering at speed on a good surface is perfectly stable. Tonight I noticed that the near side rear - where the clunk is - is much easier to bounce than the offside. I wouldn't say that there is excessive rebound bounces indicating knackered damper but it is so easy to bounce it is difficult to tell. Plus I presume the Konis only damp the rebound not the bump so knackered damper wouldn't make it easier to bounce down. Sound like the spring has given up? They are of an unknown vintage. How likely is spring failure? Thanks Andy
88V8
Sound like the spring has given up? They are of an unknown vintage. How likely is spring failure? It won't lose its temper, nor will it sag like an ancient leaf. If it had broken, the car would appear as if recently torpedoed. I suspect that although all appears well with the assembly on the car, when you remove the damper you will find something amiss. Ivor
Rob Salisbury
Plus I presume the Konis only damp the rebound not the bump Andy,.... all the dampers I've come across damp in both directions, try checking with the other side. Cheers, Rob
