Hi Simon,

Poor quality repro caps that rust through in no time have been a problem for a few years now.

But like ignition parts, wheel bearings, globes etc., radiator caps are common to many cars, and don't need to be purchased from TR specialists.

Go to a local radiator repair shop or major auto spare parts outlet, as they usually carry quality brands of caps.

The 1" deep throw x 4 lbs pressure radiator cap for sidescreens TR's are getting scarce, but you can safely fit a more common 7lb cap.

The correct spec cap I carry as a spare has a brand CPC and a number 505.4 to quote if that helps.

Another option when you next have the radiator out is to get the neck changed to a modern .75" short throw cap.

Regards,

Viv

Simon,

I have a few spare Lucas and AC NOS radiator caps, 4lb and 7lb with various uncompressed heights.

These have been accumulated as I have found that the depth of the neck fillers do seem to vary from car to car and from the supposed original stated depth.

Thus it is important that the radiator neck depth is checked and the correct cap with an additional 1/4" for compression is used.

If you are interested send me a P.M. with you e-mail and I can forward details, etc.

Regards, Richard ;)
