Frank - I would use bit of epoxy on one and then clean both. Then I'd put them back on. I was missing one of these last year for the BRG TR3A that I was restoring and I bought a relic heater from a TR scrap-yard, refurbished the knob and put it on.

good idea! did you paint the knob after the repair or did you try to match the colour of the epoxy?
