  1. Just a personal opinion of course, but In a TR 250 you are pretty certain that it will get you there, maybe a little slower than the 5.

But with a TR5 you can't ever be sure of getting there at all.

Have I shown you my new TR 250 bought from Georgia early this morning. (Somebody has to save em)

Nice one Pete and with a surrey too it was very cheap at the price.

Looks like you and tomtr250 are saving the TR 250 world ( apart from the ones which have been re-badged ) B)

Mike its easy to buy just look at TR250/ TR5 on the American e:bay site

    Regards

    Rex

  2. I expect the only way to prove its identity is to check its com numbers with Roger Ferris who is the TR 5 Registrar.

CP xxx is TR5 CD xxx is TR250

Surely the buyer would check it out before coughing up nearly £ 43K

  3. Hi Mike, I spoke to ORS last year about a replacement TR6 gearbox and overdrive. At the time I think they wanted £ 1800-00 for a reconditioned box complete but would take the old one in exchange but still wanted about £ 1000-00 plus the old box.

Speak to ORS they are very helpful as I don't know if prices have gone up since then.

  4. Rex,

According to the TR Technicalities Gearbox & Overdrive file, an overdrive A22/61711 is from a 1964 - 72 Triumph 2000. The STI Number would be 306864.

FWIW, I fitted one of those boxes C/W overdrive to my TR3a. At the time ORS were offering a complete rebuild service for the overdrive converting it to TR spec including a new rear casing and replacing any worn parts for £500, which I reckoned was a bargain. The box had cost me next to nothing anyway and was good. I didn't bother to change the input shaft and am running with a saloon drive plate.

Ian, Many thanks for your information which is very helpful. I think the price from ORS may have gone up a bit since then.

Andrew, Many thanks also for your comments which are noted.

The idea is to use a TR6 input shaft to take a TR6 clutch, new rear casing complete with the modified speedo drive. This A type does have the 8 clutch springs in it.

Having bought the gearbox/ overdrive and having it converted should still be a lot less than the £ 2195 that TR shop want for a reconditioned one.

    Regards Rex

  5. Hi, I have acquired what I think is a saloon a type gearbox and overdrive.

The code on the gearbox is 306812 WYF2 E 336 and the overdrive is 22/61711/

Is there anyway I can check if my assumption is correct.

Presumably it will need a bigger diameter input shaft to cope with the TR6 clutch and some modification on the speedo drive

The new gearbox and overdrive is for a 1972 TR6 ex American presently non overdrive

    Many thanks

  7. David, I used Shiply.com to transport a TR6 from Yeovil to Nottingham and the best quote was from Dark Blue Transport.

Adam the driver was brilliant so you may want to get a quote from him 01884 855752 or enquiries@darkbluetransport.co.uk

In essence you pay an amount of the quote direct to shiply and the balance goes to the transporter.

Best of luck with the restoration when you get it, and let us know how you get on.

  8. Using commission numbers from Rimmer, Moss , and TRF

I have worked out that my car was built on the 4th December 1970

    it says

1970 model year first production car built on 22 Nov 1970 was CC50001L

Last car built that year, (24 Dec 1970?) was CC51032L

    my car is 50376L

If they built 32 cars per day using the 1970 Callender is where I imagine it was built.

But does anyone have more accurate figures

    november calendar for 1970

Pete , pay the money to Gayden and get a heritage certificate

  9. Hi Chaps some information please.

My American TR6 engine is approx. 104 BHP and I would like to increase its power. At present it has a 219019 head which

is correct for a 75 car.

The engine already has a 125 cam in it and so how much do I have to skim off the head to increase the compression ratio

the head height is 3.560 inches at present and a PI head is 3.40. The car will run on carbs not PI so how much do I get the engineers to skim off. The head will also be unleaded.

    All answers kindly received
