  1. thanks for the replies chaps..what a great picture guy,i could go off into dreamland looking at that view....

i now have the body off the chassis, and my mentor is coming tomorrow to finish the engine rebuild,so progressing nicely.it will be a 59 year old and a 71 year old working together, and both as bolshy as each other !!... should be fun as usual....

    cheers ,

    conrad.

  2. imagine my surprise when i opened my new tr action magasine last night.

there on the tr5 page is a picture of the car that i bought in the summer and am currently restoring....reg WPB422G in all its glory.

i look forward to the day when i am out driving her myself.

i am currently liasing with tim,a previous owner am hoping to find out more about the car and see more photos.

he is not the chap i bought it from, but has alot of the previous history.

what a great club the tr register is,i am enjoying every aspect of the friendly banter, and good advice, thats in abundance.

if anyone is interested i can up date this when i have more older pictures and info, and some recent restoration photos etc.

    all the best,

    conrad.

  3. thanks harry and david,

the dizzy is removed, but i now understand about the cam folowers and will keep them in order.this is my first time rebuilding a tr5 and am gaining plenty of invaluable advice/experience,and will no doubt be asking more questions...

    thanks to all.

    conrad.

  4. hi pete,no i havent removed them,i thought they were positioned so i could withdraw the whole thing !

i will have to give it a good swill round with cleaner and wd40 them,in order to free them i think.thanks for that anyway.

    hi roger,

i am not sure what you mean,i do have a tr4 mechanical fuel pump somewhere though.

    cheers,

    conrad.

  5. evening gents,

i wonder if someone has had this problem too.....i have stripped my engine totally,it has been stood since 1989..but cant withdraw the cam shaft,it will move about half an inch,in and out so is catching on something.

    any help would be appreciated.

    cheers,

    conrad.

  6. thanks for the pics richard, they were a great help...

i now have had two keys made and all is well,it was a sunny day so went out for a drive....the next day was sunny so went to start up again and all i have is a whirring/clicking under the bonnet.i have taken off the plenum chamber to get a look at the starter motor and it seems to be the solenoid, although i am not sure yet.....so another job to do......the joys of classic motoring !

thanks to everyone for their help solving the key situation and a happy new year to all..

    conrad.

  7. hi roger,a good idea, but there were several keys, ignition, glove box, doors and boot....always meant to have spares cut,i wont make that mistake again !

i have removed the ignition barrel and replaced it with one from my rebuild car,so now i can start and drive it....

the number written round the silver barrel is....5 numbers followed by the letter d,then 12 68.

    thanks,

    conrad..

i will contact cooperkeys on monday and ask them what they need .....

  8. hello all,

just to let you know,i have been down the heritage route, they didnt keep records of keys back then,,,,so no luck there..

so its removal of igniton, and try cooperkeys....sounds easy, but i have a council lock up ,with no electric !

    conrad.

  9. good afternoon,

i have recently lost the keys to my tr5 with no replacement set, luckily the car is open,so i can remove the ignition and hopefully find a key number...

is there a way of finding the key numbers without doing this, perhaps by checking original records ?

i will also need door keys and boot key...

whatever happens i will have two sets made, and keep the spares somehwere safe !

    cheers,

    conrad.

  10. hi ian,

the one is at £650 with 22 hours still to go,and it always seems to go crazy in the last few seconds !

is this a record for an original wheel?

i am also the proud owner of a 68` conifer green 5,i have a wood rim wheel, with a tatty original hung up in the garage,

    all the best,

    conrad.

  11. dear all ,thanks so much for your answers, and the pictures are very helpfull....i am rebuilding a tr5 and i also have one of each...these seem to be very expensive.

    all the best,

    conrad.
