  1. Hi F69, i have done this with decent results, i also have some spare shims, but i am sure you can still get them from suppliers....anyway you are welcome to some if you want,

I did talk to stuart about this some time ago,and he said be carefull as you can cause problems elsewhere on the body.Probably if you needed to pack a few in,it stands to reason !

    Cheers,

    Conrad.

Ps you can also add to this with some door adjustment,be carefull of your paint work though!

  2. Well done nick, i hope its gone to a good home,That was always going to sell in the current climate......the classic car showrooms are empty, all sold ! well nearly......

Get ready for your next kicking !!!

Look forward to the info and pictures,

    Cheers,

    Conrad.

  3. Hello Pete, Have you just joined,if so welcome to this great forum.

As you can see on previous posts, there is alot of very usefull help on here.I am sure your question will be answered.

I didnt realise there was a different m/c offered these days.

    Enjoy your rebuild,

    Regards,

    Conrad.

  4. Good Afternoon, well the sun is out and i am not working ! so i have put on a fresh set of powder coated wires with new michelins on....this has firmed up things alot and the steering is firmer...well as good as you get with wires !

Peter and i have been out in it again,he says nothing too drastic to worry about,,,but there is a noticeable vibration, when accelerating in second gear, and decelerating from 60/70 mph.

It appears in sort of wave and then goes smooth again....less noticeable in overdrive.....

Peter reckons i am being picky, but its there......will change engine mounts and see if that helps things..........thanks for all the advice..

    Conrad.

  5. Hi all, Thanks for the thoughtfull advice...

Alan ..i will check that plate too, although i cleaned the diff.down totally and didnt notice anything untoward....will check it though.

John..Yes i am thinking the same, the vibration was there before, but not as noticeable...maybe because all is smooth at the back end now ??

As for the propshaft replacement,it was only when replacing it that i realised i didnt mark it,it can only go in one of two positions as the bolt holes are offset.

So when it stops raining,i will try a few of these points out.

    Thankyou,

    Conrad.

  6. Hi Alan,i have very recently replaced the front offside diff mount,it was cracked right through too....also welded re-enforcement on the rear near side....the others were in good nick.( it was interesting work !)

Its now that the vibration is noticeable.

    Thanks,

    Conrad.

  7. Hi john and littlejim, thanks for the replies......wheels have been recently balanced, they are wires,it took them three goes and still not perfect.....the bearings are fine too...

I have tried the trick of putting into neutral and there is some through the steering wheel, but mainly through the seat of my pants, when accelerating quite hard and decelerating from 70`ish....so mainly through the backside whilst driving.....it doesnt feel if anything is badly wrong....just an annoying vibration !

I have just taken a tr5 friend out in it....he says nothing too bad but intimated the wheels(wires)

    Thanks,

    Conrad.

  8. Good Morning all,

Has anyone any experience or ideas on the following please.

I have had a bit of vibration in the car for a while, but recently had to replace a diff.mount pin and re enforce another.while we were doing that ,i had new u/j`s in the drive shafts and greased the splines....the vibration was there,so replaced the propshaft with a rebuilt one....still have the vibration...

It mainly appears during low gear acceleration, and definitely on de-acceleration from 60/70 mph..

I have made sure the exhaust isnt coming into contact with the chassis.

    Cheers,

    Conrad.

  9. Brilliant thanks stuart, that helps alot.....i have just had a new diff mount and some strengthening done,so it was diff off and new u/j `s on the drive shafts etc....never thought of the propshaft....as now i have a distinct vibration, and can only think it could be the propshaft...

    Thanks again,

    Conrad.

  10. Hi Barry,i checked mine the other day on a 250 mile round trip to norfolk,it was a red hot day,the car ran beautifully.....i reckon it returned nearly 30 mpg....there wasnt much high speed motoring due to the traffic....

A friend on here (peter moffat) has had mpg problems on a new rebuild, and i know he has been given advice by neil ferguson on how a few tweaks to the metering unit, can make alot of difference..I am sure he would mind you contacting him.

    Good luck,

    Conrad.

  11. Hi colin, good to hear that you are now set up and pleased with the outcome ...i am running on original dampers and i like the ride,i had a damper link to trailing arm break off the other day, that made it very wallowy !

My tyres are michelin 165`s and the steering and road holding are just fine.....all a personal preference in the long run.

Hope to see you at malvern,

    Conrad.

  12. I have an mg badger story....at dusk just going home, two ran out from a farm gateway and as i braked hard they both went under the car. They had been oblivious to me which for a badger is unusual.

i backed up fearing the worst and both were dead,i was heartbroken, all i could do was pull them onto the grass verge.,,,, the damage to the mgb wasnt too bad ,i now always slow down at that gateway, just in case.

    Conrad.

  13. Hi Rob and Bill, I have had this rebuild on the go for 2 years now and have tried to organise and do as much of it as i can myself.

I have asked questions and taken advice on here, and met some great people and had some really good help.

My main focus has been on keeping the car as original as i possible can,so have mainly ruled out upgrades and mods.

So sorry chaps ,no list here but loads of contacts and parts to do the job with.

    All the best,

    Conrad.

  14. Hi bill, i am in the middle of a tr5 restoration, and have several ideas and contacts, that i have used in trying to keep the budget down !

Feel free to contact me,and see if i can be of any help,i will answer pm`s etc.

Whatever you decide, good luck and dig deep into your pockets !

    Regards,

    Conrad.

  15. Also agreed with harry and ian, love my tr5 an luckily bought a few years ago at the right price, but going forward if the prices continue upwards its our good fortune that we have invested in them....

For once in my life i made the right decision, anyway its all relative, until i have to sell.

Going back to gavin`s point, hopefully dave webb has gathered a few pointers on how the market is going, and what sort of money he will have to part with for an "original" car in nearly concourse condition....

By the way, thats my conifer green tr5 with the tan softop in the picture on gavins link...

    All the best chaps,

    Conrad.

  16. Hi dave, just been checking out your questions and answers,...and welcome to the tr register..so concours condition and very original.....you are going to be paying top dollar sadly to say....but if the buying is done with care, you will have a great car to drive.

there was a tr5 in classifieds recently.he was asking £25 k...and it needed some work.....so you are probably getting some idea now .

    Good luck in your search,

    Conrad.
