So thats the 5 Second Edition units allocated !

Malcolm, Stuart, David, Mike and Darren are the fortunate few this time !

I could do with a 4a/5 test car to validate that the park switching is compatible, i do think ot is but need to test on a car ideally

in the meantime i’ve ordered the components and will make the units in the next 2 weeks.

once they are made i’ll request shipping details and get them on their way.

PS as winter draws in i’ll likely have time for a bigger production run to meet any further demand....

    Good afternoon TR fans.

following testing/feedback on the FE units I do not think they will work as configured for cars prior to the TR6

i’m sure they can be made to work but i’ll need to test/experiment on an earlier car before i can offer a unit for a 4/4a/5

so for the SE units, which are ready to ship!, I’d really only be confortable supplying them to TR6 owners.

i think that is only Darren from the ‘lucky 5’ ?

Malcolm, Stuart, David, Mike, i propose to move you to the ‘first customers for a 4/4a/5 version list’ if thats ok?

    please confirm

if so i’ll have Four more SE versions available for TR6 owners and will review the requests above in order to allicate these.

i’m sorry the units don’t work easily for earlier cars, the park switching is just too ‘different’ from the ‘6.

I went a slightly different route.

Mintex 1144 pads on new drilled discs, Morgan rear wheel cylinders, braided hoses and DOT5 fluid.  The main change though was fitting a 12V Audi brake vacuum pump controlled by a small switch designed for automatic transmissions in older American cars which allows me to adjust the vacuum to the servo.  I'm currently running at 13 inches and the brakes are superb.  The only downside is I can hear the vacuum pump running at standstill and low speeds.

  4. Morning TR fans

following the runaway success of the First Edition WashWipe controller for the TR6, and other models with some fettling, I’m ready to make a Second Edition!

this will be a run of Five units and the price will be £30 including UK postage.

quite a few people asked to be ‘put on the list’ but as i never actually made a list please reply to this thread with your orders, first come first served!

i’ll also make availabe the Instructions Sheet later this week for those wanting to copy/enhance/read about the units.

    regards

    steve

  5. Thanks for the positive comments everyone !

i’m very pleased with how the units turned out, and how much effort it was to make and test 4 of them in one go.

i’ll be home on Friday so will make a start on the instruction sheet then, and aim  to post the First Edition units early next week ( once the jiffy bags arrive)

The price will be £25 plus postage, which  I expect to be about £3.50 for uk first class post.

i’m thinking of making another small batch in September, depending upon availability of the relays.

  6. Progress update, First Edition units are tested and finished ready for shipping :-)

each unit has today been wired into my TR6 and tested

all Four worked correctly providing intermittent wipe timing and also four wipes of the wipers when the washers are operated.

I do still need to finalise the instructions / info sheet and buy some jiffy bags then they can be off to their new lives.

for those with earlier cars i will explain how the units work in the instructions which should allow them to be wired into cars other than a CR TR6

for the CR TR6 I will explain exactly how to wire the unit.

i have chosen not to terminate the wires so buyers will need to add appropriate connectors to suit their installation

the units are wrapped in Tesa loom tape for protection, and they look great i think !

  7. Made a start this morning by extracting the prototype from the ‘test’ vehicle and reaquainted myself with the circuit.

components gathered ready for assembly !

i’m still thinking of the neatest way to do this, and awaiting the Tesa loom tape which should be here today

Aiming to have these sought after ‘First Edition’ units out in the post next week :-)

    steve

PS, relay units are back in stock too so i can make more if this production run goes well.

  8. Plus Gas for small stuff Diesel for big stuff

for Lockdown i bought a derelict Honda CB550 from 1974 that had been standing for more than 20 years and had a siezed engine.

my first action was to put a little Diesel in each cylinder and after 3 days the motor freed up beautifully

Roger/Chris, many thanks for your very prompt replies.

I don’t suppose either of you guys can recommend a suitable sealant. I was considering Captain Tolley, although not used it before.

    David

I used Captain Tolley to reseal my tr6’s windscreen and it worked well but took a few applications

CT expands upon drying which is how it works, the thin liquid creeps into small cracks then expands to seal them as it dries.

  10. So the first batch is sold out ..... :-)

Chris, John and Ian ordered today, and Harry has been patiently waiting for ages!

relays are on order and once they come in i’ll have a session in the workshop, and write some instructions.

these should work for any TR as long as it’s wipers require a positive feed to start the wipe, with the self park completing the process.

    watch out for updates !

    Steve
