Yes it sounds like the throttles are not/not all closing correctly
it may be worth using a flow meter to check the airflow of each throttle, and then renovating the throttle linkage with polybushes and new adjuster links if necessary
whereabouts are you Dave?
-
Hi David
this sounds like an air leak…. Probably!
you mention ‘choke’ - is your car a PI or a Carb model?

I was afraid to admit that I've only had a single pre-pump filter on my Bosch pump setup for the last 20 years, so I'm glad to discover that I'm not the only one
I completely understand the belt-and-braces approach of having an additional filter after the pump, but I've never had a problem in the 77000 miles that I've driven my TR6.
Cheers, Robert
Me too, with a 996 pump and Sytec disposable filters, but only for 10 years and 30000 miles !

I switched to 4G last year. 5mbps from copper cables became 100mbps download and 25mps upload.
External directional aerial pointing at the nearest mast and an Archer MR600 4G router.
I was quoted nearly £1500 to install by a a local rural broadband company.
Total DIY cost under £300.I have an unlimited data Sim for about £21 a month. Clearly you need to select a provider that gives good coverage in your area.
Iain
That’s interesting Iain
i also have the MR600 and tried an omnidirectional Poynting aerial but it made no difference
what directional aerial are you using ?

Last year i cancelled my landline and went 4g at home, already 4g on the boat.
speeds vary a lot, at home i’m on 3 and get 10-15 down and about 5 up, or Vodafone gives 20-30 / 1-3
i am able to do everything i need, including streaming netflix etc
so as above check out the local masts and choose accordingly, also invest in a directional antenna and point it at the mast, this makes a big difference

Here you are John, to help salvage your last reminiscence of sanity ..back on topic . . .
^ rear brake adjuster, aka a 1/4" drive socket used inverted and turned by an Allen. In this case the inverted socket being used is the type that holds screwdriver bits, so all together handy to keep in the tool roll, along with a range of different screwdriver heads.
Pete
Oh i like that !
think i’ll steal the idea and adapt to use my 1/4 mini Wera ratchet with an allen insert driving the 1/4 socket
top work Pete

Oooh, i love this Marco brake mod !

Excellent pictorial explanation Pete !

Hi Paul
what car is this on?
if it is a tr6 then i found it necessary to slit one of the blue polybushes to allow it to be fitted

Sabrina ?

Great work Bob!
anything os possible….. but I agree that making these for others is just too much effort.
i’m unsure if i will make another batch for the tr6, i might but i did have to provide a lot of support for the previous batches !

A big shout out again to Steve Derbyshire again.
Steve came to my house again today to help me install and set up my new refurbished injectors.
A true gentleman in helping out a newby, in getting my TR6 operational again.
Car is running perfectly
Many thanks Steve, hope you enjoy the wine.
David
It was my pleasure David!
we are planning a Spanish Evening this weekend so will try the wine then
Bruce has a valid point at the mu seals, especially on 2 and 5, often cause problems and it was 5 that was the worst culprit.
IF problems recur, and as i said my cas has run perfectly for 8 years now, then we’ll have to tale the MU off to get at the banjos for 2 and 5, more fun !
look forward to catching up again soon, perhaps for the Classic show

Has it perhaps been enlarged from the original bore size?, some think this improves breathing.

Best thing I ever did to my TR was have the injectors & MU professionally rebuilt by a Lucas expert with a calibration bench. That transformed the car from a real dog to something that was a pleasure to drive.
Exactly!
the Lucas PI system is very reliable once it is set up properly
PI cars suffered from neglect over the years and thus gained the unreliability reputation
i’ve now had two PI setups refurbished by Neil Fergussen, and am in fact helping another member later today to install a set of Neil’s bargain of the century refurbished injectors.
my current TR6 benefitted from a set of these injectors 8 years / 24k miles ago and still runs perfectly
I love the PI system, it’s such a part of the character of the car, so maintain it don’t replace it !

I’ve been using sytec filters for years with great results on my 6
i actually use the disposable 8mm type, and had the same concers as you about the reduced flow
however my car delivered 148 rear wheel HP on a rolling road with the sytec installed, so any restriction wasn’t significant!

Before going to all the effort to install the 15acr i think you should consider if it is man enough for the job
i’d recommend an 18acr for any pi equipped car

Interesting thread!
i’m just looking at new boilers as my 30+ year old Baxi has died, for about the 10th time !
these old boilers can be repaired forever it seems but i no longer have a local expert available so am thinking of having a quality new boiler installed
my builder neighbour recommended Viessman but the trusted installer recommended Baxi, they offer a 10 year parts and labour warranty so i’ll likey go with that.

Even 4 degrees btdc is a little conservative Dave, with today’s fuels most cars like 8-11btdc
you also need to be aware that the timing marks can slip….
