In a similar vein i once flooded the stereo in my TR6 with engine oil!
The sealing washer of the oil pressure pipe to the guage fell off when i refitted the dash and i didnt notice, went for a test drive and oil came out of the front of the stereo !!
furtunately the engine did not suffer, but the carpets did!
i flushed the stereo out with brake cleaner and it has worked perfectly ever since, 8 years!

Great progress with the seat cleaning and body mods Pete

Back in the workshop this week is my friends CB750F
we rebuilt the top end last winter and it’s running well but still has a lot of issues due to previous bodges……
so this winter i’m rebuilding the clutch with new cush rubbers, rebuilding the carbs, and chasing a couple of oil leaks :-)
might rebuild the suspension too….

Thanks Guys!
went to the gym first thing to get that out of the way…. Then took Scruffy the CB550 out for a ride with a friend on his old CB750, coffeee and cake, bit of action in the workshop, and now awaiting steak being cooked by my lovely girlfriend and a bottle of Malbec !
not too bad :-)

Good progress again Pete
i’m a shortass at 5’7” so wont have any challenges room wise !
i actually like the later mk3 seats but my investigations lead me to think they are too big for the tr6 and the ones you have are the best compromise.

I fitted a 123tune+ about 3 or 4 years ago and had my tacho reworked by JDO to suit, it’s worked perfectly ever since.
i agree that he’s not the easiest to work with….. it’s his way or nothing!, but a good product/service nonetheless

Happy New Year Pete and thanks for the comprehensive additional write up.
some of your concerns do ring true, although we are both very fit and mobile at the moment who knows jow long that will last!
i’ve sat in a couple of sets of refurbished mx5 seats in TR6s and in both cases found them easy enough to get in and out of.
i wonder if the new /refurbished/thicker padding masks the ‘bucket’ shape that is giving you challenges ?
i’m baulking at the £700+ for the beautiful seats from Paul Bishop, my car just isnt that nice….. my main desires from any new seats are better support and comfort
think i’ll try to have a drive or two in someones car equipped with mx5 seats, I did go out in Dave’s when we were working on it but was too focussed on the ignition/pi issues to contemplate the seats much.
thanks again for all the info Pete

Mild steel would be quieter
ss looks good.
it tends to be the exhaust gasses that rot out the silencers and not sure if ss is more resistant.
I have a ss system here
Great video and sound Hamish !

Stainless for me too.
everyone knows this but…… please be aware that stainless exhausts get hot VERY QUICKLY…..
years ago i burned all my fingers adjusting a SS exhaust only a minute after fitting and firing up !

Replacement Inertia switches, word of caution.
in TR6 Forum
Posted
Yesterday I was helping iron out a couple of electrical issues in a friend’s TR6 and noticed a worrying issue with the replacement Inertia Switch which he had fitted.
the unit, pictured below, was wired so that it only provided continuity/power to the pump in the triggered state not the safe/activated state
this meant that NO protection was actually being provided and the fuel pump would not have shut off in a crash
Dave had used the supplied , pre wired, mini loom which was pinned incorrectly in the three pin plug.
The unit provides Normally Closed and Normally Open connections, so that in addition to cutting power to the fuel pump it can light a tell-tale lamp to let the driver know it has been triggered.
The supplied loom connected to the NO contacts and thus the pump only ran in the triggered/crashed! position.
if you have one of these units, I do myself, please check that the fuel pump runs when the button is pressed down, not when it has sprung up when you tap or shake the unit.
