  1. I'm actively considering braking upgrade options for a TR6 at the moment, probably the same as a TR5 setup?

Presently these are the options with rough costs that i have researched :

1, use std calipers with uprated solid disks and pads, cost about £150

2, as above but also spacers in std caliper to facilitate ventilated/crossdrilled disks, cost about £250

3, Wilwood setup with vented and crossdrilled disks and black 4pots, £630 ( after much research as Moss = £780)

4, AP Racing, very sexy red 4 pots etc etc but £1300plus

PS, ive only driven a few TR6s but none had brakes that i would call great, but then perhaps i'm more used to bikes !

  2. I regularly see TR6's with 16x7 Panasports using 205/55x16 tires. I think Rick Patton has this combination on his blown TR6 and it looks great, nice proportions. I'm sure I have pictures if you want to see how that looks,

Thanks Stan, yes i would like to see how that looks !

( I've just found the thread with pics and they do look great)

If i stick with 15" do I want 6 or 5.5 width, to go with 195/65 tyres ??

Having a bit of a search I see that Minator wheels are quite commonly fitted, and are considerable cheaper than Minilite, are they OK quality wise ??

    Thanks again.

  3. SO, just seen the new Minilite 16" wheels advertised, initially in 7" but other widths coming.

I'm thinking they would look great on a TR6, AND open up some bigger brake options :-)

Has anyone put 16" wheels on a TR6, and if so in what width??

    Got any Photos??

( I am thinking 7" will be too wide and will foul the bodywork/suspension?)

Also what brakes are you running under your 16, or bigger !, wheels ??

    Regards

  4. Hi Guys, thanks for all the helpful replies !

I have done quite a bit of homework before viewing, bought several books and looked on here quite a lot.

The car in question is a '75 model that is excellent mechanically having had most of the recommended 'improvements' and a rebuilt and tuned engine.

Looking at the chassis all seems to be very good, no cracks in the usual places from what i could see, we had it up on a lift for half an hour.

Car was taken in part ex by a TVR garage, they seem like genuine enthusiasts and were very helpful yesterday.

I also spoke with the previous owner for about an hour and he has looked after the car very well mechanically, having had it for 12 years but not used it in the last 4 or so, and its not been serviced for a few years.

Drives very well, pulls cleanly, overdrive works fine, feels tight and responsive, impressive for a 35 year old !

Its all great , apart form the bodywork.

It actually looks nice and original, most panels look good with a few marks.

Main area of rust is rear wings at at the b posts, but also around the rear lights.

One of the door bottoms is a bit rough too, but not excessively.

My position on the TR6 'project' is that i want a reliable and fun car to drive regularly but nor by any means daily ( I have another car and two motorbikes already :-) )

So..... do I go for this car which is excellent mechanically but is going to need some bodywork, or look for one with better bodywork but probably les good mechanically ??

How much will two rear wings, and a bit of remedial work elsewhere, run to???

    All help appreciated!

  5. The title says it all really.

I've fancied a TR6 for a while and have spotted a decent but by no means perfect one for sale nearish to me.

Had a brief look the other day, it seems to be excellent mechanically but in need of a bit of bodywork.

so tomorrow, being as it's my birthday :-), the GF and I are off to look it over more seriously and take a test drive.

    Suggestions and comments welcome......

    Steve
